Becoming Muslim

Taking the Shahada (Testifying that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad (s) is His Messenger) begets obligations and prohibitions to complete your statement through the beautification of your actions and the straightening out of your life. The first obligation that falls upon a person who claims belief is the 5 daily prayers and it is the distinguishing practice between the believers and disbelievers. Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, \”Between a man and disbelief and paganism is the abandonment of Salat (prayer).\” [Muslim]. Moreover, it is the promise of Allah that salah will set right your actions and lead you to a life that is pleasing to Him. Recite that which has been revealed to you of the Book and keep up prayer; surely prayer keeps (one) away from indecency and evil, and certainly the remembrance of Allah is the greatest, and Allah knows what you do.
